Bucks 'A' versus Northants 'A' match report

Father?s Day, not the best day to have a county match against our nearest rivals and reigning regional champions Northants, but hopes were high with the Bucks on a decent run and team spirit on an all time high.

Back in the ?A?s was Darren ?duvet? White, who with a run of decent form in the ?B?s was a little anxious and nervous so a big day for Darren. Northants won the toss and opted to take the break first and on stepped Dan Morgan and Mike Chappell for the bucks. Was a slightly nervy start with both having chances but just missing out and putting bucks 2-0 down. Jimmy Jams, sporting his gangster look with his swollen cheeks, was next against Rich Gormley, who went on to win Northants player of the match. Jimmy started fast and furious, making some great pots and giving rich his only defeat of the day. Next 2 on were Dane and Peter Lee, with Dane losing and Peter winning, this left the score at 3-2 to Northants, not a bad start for us.

The game everyone was waiting for. Yes, Mark ? the traitor? mc Gauley against our newest ?A? teamer Darren White. The tongue in cheek boo?s and jeers as mark approached the table was hilarious. There then followed a song, led and written by Dane Tuttlebee ( who is now thinking of switching careers) to the tune of Hokey Cokey and some marvellous lyrics, most of which escape me, even the bunnies joined in ( so lyrics were not that hard to remember lol... sorry bunnies. Darren to break then more boos and hisses as mark came to the table again. A few shots later, Darren was left with an opportunity although not an easy one. Every single ball potted by the ?duvet? brung on a cheer of ear drum busting magnitude. After a few balls and an excellent position shot to leave a near straight black for the game, Darren stroked it in and all 3 Bucks squads erupted, the likes I have neither see or heard before. An absolutely fantastic start for Darren and an obvious soul crushing blow for the northants and mark himself. This sparked off an absolute mauling by the Bucks on Northants with us taking the next 5 games of the session to give us a lead of 8-3....... YES.. 8-3

Onto the second session and hopes were high along with noise levels. Unfortunately though we lost the session 7-4 with wins from Mike Chappell, Jimmy Wharton, Dane Tuttlebee and Sean Gourley. Despite the loss though, making it 12-10 to the bucks, noise levels remained high and the support was unprecedented. It really was a great first half from Bucks and I could hardly get the stupid mile off my face.

Third session and again it was started with Dan Morgan and Mike chappell both with superb wins and extending our lead to 4 games. Thoughts of our last meeting at Northants started to run through some heads as we lost the next 3 games and reducing our lead to only 1 game. The next six games went 3 a piece, our wins coming from Darren White, Steve Appleby and Stuart Douglas. This left the session score 6-5 to northants with a total score of 17-16 to Bucks, a reversal of the score line when we played at northants. I cast my mind back to that last meeting, last session, one game behind and losing last session 10-1... Gutted!! Difference this time was that you could only hear the Bucks, we were still happy and playing well. More importantly we had the belief that we could win, the support of every bucks side and a determination running through the whole squad that said we were not going to let that happen again.

Last session, 5 games for the draw, 6 for the win and Dan Morgan to play first. Dan broke off and after a couple of shots from each player, Dan made a fine clearance and gave us a 2 game lead and finishing on 50% for the day. Keep it up Dan. Mike on next and performing well on his visit to the ?A?s. Unfortunately he lost somewhat unluckily also leaving him with 50% for the day. Fantastic form for the ?A?s mate. 18-17 to bucks. Jimmy Wharton started a run of 4 in a row for Bucks, the room going crazy as we knew that meant we had secured at least the draw. That left jimmy on a fantastic ? for the day. The other 3 wins coming from Dane Tuttlebee 2/4, Peter Lee 2/4 and an amazing performance from Darren White, taking out Mark mc Gauley, Wayne Gardiner and C Haynes. This gave Darren 3/4 and a deserved man of the match and leaving Bucks a frame away from a feckin great in. This responsibility for that firstly went to Sean Gourley, did he crumble, did he falter, did he feck... Pulled off a mental clearance leaving Northants open mouthed, scratching heads and wondering what the feck happened. Great stuff from Sean in fine form of late and ending the day with 3/4. The next 2 games started and almost finished at the same time, those frames coming from Stuart Douglas and Steve Appleby, both wind, both good blacks and both got the biggest roar you?ve ever heard coming out of the Herald, bunnies not included. Both Stuart and Steve finishing with 3 from 4. God did I need that. Last game went to Terry Davidson who also pulled off a superb finish and a 2 from 4 for the day, Terry also in fine form this season.

End result was a massive 26 for the Bucks and 16 for the runners up lol. A special traitor trophy was presented to Mark mc Gauley, who in all fairness took it on the chip and had a good laugh about it. I have never been as happy and proud at county than I was on Sunday, the support all day was great to see, the noise levels were great to hear and the win was more than deserved. Well done ?A? teamers. Thanks to all the bucks, bunnies and ?b?s, for making that noise louder and thanks to Northants for a great game.

July 12th, away to Gloucestershire. If we repeat that performance then I predict that we will all be going home happy. Well done to all the Bunnies who after a slight hiccup in first session, went on to win 34-10.. Bad luck to the ?B?s who had one bad session and lost 25-19. Up the Bucks!!!
