I like the idea of more players because for me personally it would be nice to play against people I don't normally play against

I dont mind either way, but have to say I prefer the league format followed by a knockout. Just make it go on a bit longer.

Problem is :- One table....

In normal league format (including finals)....

10 players = 24 weeks
11 players = 29 weeks
12 players = 35 weeks
.
.
.
16 players = 62 weeks (Finishing about May 2013 then)

Swiss System (Including Finals)....

10 Players, 7 games = 19 weeks
.
12 players, 7 games = 22 weeks
.
.
.
16 players, 6 games = 26 weeks

You know more about running these things than I do and my maths is probably wrong but could you not split it into 2 divisions of 8 then? That would be 28 weeks to complete the leagues wouldnt it? Top 2 from each league play each other in a KO and the winners from that?

As I say, looking forward to it whatever the format.

Of course the other option is to extend the shed and get another table *wave*
Guess whos back, back again.

Yeah, did the two groups bit before, would take 30 weeks with the Finals...

I even did a two stage one once with 24 people, took forever...

My missus said NO to a bigger shed and two tables..... But the other option is to use Richard's table, he is up for this I believe.

We could go to about 14 players and take about 25 weeks with Finals. 13 matches, one every fortnight...
(Or even Two groups of 10 players if loads of players want to take part)

What people prefer that instead?

Personally, Id prefer the 14 players or the 2 groups. Ill have my time of cursing the bloody swiss system in March.
Guess whos back, back again.

I'm easy as I'm looking forward to winning it whatever system we play *grin*
You have to stay in shape. My grandmother, she started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 today and we don't know where the hell she is

OK, Im gonna hold back on the final format for now....

First Im going to find out exactly how many people are definitely in.

Limited to 16 max (two groups of 8).

I will post another thread for confirmed entries, so once I have your entry money your name goes in that forum.

Deadline is still the 31st Jan 2012. Then on the 1st Feb I will decided the format and prize money and arrange the fixtures.

Sure I understand Jimmy....

OK, guarantees....

1) First Prize will be a MINIMUM of ?300 :)
2) Stake will be ?50
3) You wont be playing every week, probably fortnightly or three weekly.
4) Top players from the league will go through to a seeded knockout "Finals" stage to decide the money winners.
5) There will be two matches each Thursday of 12 frames, 8:00pm and 9:30pm
6) Each player will play a minimum of 6 matches during the "League" stage, more likely more...
7) 2 points for a win, 1 for a draw, draws decided by head to head and then frames won overall.
8) Postponed matches must be played within a 2 week window on an alternative night.
9) Starting End of February.
10) The table will be fully re-clothed and re-cushioned in January ready for this event with best Strachan West of England 6811 "Yarmouth" cloth.

What is unknown at this stage is the exact number of players.

If only 8-10 players then I will go with a straight forward league format.
If more that 13 players I will probably go for 2 groups of 7 or 8.
If 11-13 players I will probably look at a 6 round Swiss format league stage.

Either way, plenty of quality pool with a decent prize haul for the winners :)

A minimum amount from the overall stake money will go towards my costs of re-clothing the table and electricity bill. All of the remainder will be paid out as usual to the winners.

John,
It's all looking great. One thing I will say though on an apprehensive note, with 90 mins allocated to each match, some players might struggle to average 7.5 mins a game.

This obviously doesn't refer to me and it's not aimed at anyone in particular but what happens if the 8pm slot overruns into the 9:30. If we wait for them to finish, the 9:30 slot could be in for a very late night.

That wouldn't bother me as my maths tells me it's more drinking time but what's your plans on this scenario? *cool*

From experience I have found 90 mins is enough for 12 frames in most cases mate. Even if it runs over I doubt the second match would finish that late. I only picked 8pm as some people work late. Im happy to make it 7.30 and 9.00 if people prefer it..

Format is confirmed as a straightforward league, we have 8 entries. I will sort out a draw next week when I have some spare time, and will order in the new cloth for the table...

Starting last Thursday in Feb :)
