Shed Singles is Back in 2012

After a long two year break, finally the singles league is back in the shed.

Not for the faint hearted this one, high stakes for a big prize.

Current holder of the Shed Singles Shield is our own Squad Manager Mr AppleBottom

Format this time will be much simpler than previous seasons.

Now that we have such a successful MKSPL in Milton Keynes I anticipate that this will only be for 8 to 10 players.
( i.e. One single round robin league with a seeded knockout final stage for the top four players. First to 9 in the finals)

Stake entry money for season six will be ?50 per player.

The Winner will receive ?300 and Runner up ?100

There will be two matches each Thursday of 12 frames, 8:00pm and 9:30pm

Each player will play 7-9 matches once a fortnight.

2 points for a win, 1 for a draw, draws decided by head to head and then frames won overall.

Postponed matches must be played within a 2 week window on an alternative night.

Starting End of February.

The table will be fully re-clothed and re-cushioned in January ready for this event with best Strachan West of England 6811 "Yarmouth" cloth.

Entry accepted only on full entry stake.

If 8 people the 7 matches in total
If 10 people the 9 matches in total.

And guess what.....

If 9 people the 8 matches in total

YOU will play one match roughly every fortnight (two weeks). So you don't play every week.

BUT there are TWO matches being played EVERY week.

How does this not make sense ?!??

Each player will play 7-9 matches once a fortnight. Suggests that each and every player will play 7-9 matches each fortnight.

And im still confused :)

Anyway, who cares. Im in please.
Guess whos back, back again.

"Each player will play 7-9 matches i.e. Roughly once a fortnight"

Sound?

How many tables do you think I have in the Shed? *hillarious*

Churchill thinks it's three and he always plays on the middle one !

You have to stay in shape. My grandmother, she started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 today and we don't know where the hell she is

That's my ten already :)

Anyone else on the reserve list for now...

To be fair to everyone..... Stake money to me by the 31st Jan to guarantee your place. After that any places not secured will be offered to the reserve list.

I will then knock up a fixture list in the first week of Feb and publish this on here ready for the first games on the 23rd Feb.

Many thanks, Looking forward to some competitive games.

Im getting more interest than I thought for this one....

Im thinking on expanding the entry list to 12-16 now, BUT changing the format to a Swiss system instead of a normal league.

What do people think?

The idea would be that every player plays 5-7 rounds (depending on final numbers) with each round being drawn at random using the Swiss System..

The top four or five still going through to a seeded knockout.

Plus points
1) More people can enter
2) More prize money
3) Bigger first prize or more prizes for lower places.
4) Closer matches (after a couple of rounds) when people are playing like for like, so more competitive at all levels.
5) Less commitment, one game ever three or four weeks.

Negative points
1) Rounds need to be completed before the next round draw, so no delayed matches possible for longer than a few days (could be a plus point as well).
2) Less games for each player.
3) Longer between games.

Neutral Points.
1) League will still go through to about July.
2) Best players will still be as likely to win.
3) It's a bit different fro the normal competitions, could be more interesting!

Sound like a good idea? Let me know...

I dont mind either way, but have to say I prefer the league format followed by a knockout. Just make it go on a bit longer.
Guess whos back, back again.
