Gloucester 'A' versus Bucks 'A' Match Report
Posted by bullet.gif whatafcukinliberty on January 19 2010
First game of the 2010 season and every single player was buzzing and had a really positive attitude about the squad, expectations were high. Gloucester, not the best venue in the world mainly due to the fact of cramped and damp conditions as there was no ventilation.

I would first of all like to thank the whole squad for their support and understanding for the way I have changed things around a little. My goal is to achieve consistency, better team spirit and more importantly, a team that can challenge for the regional title. Also I would like to welcome the newcomers to the squad Jamie Whittaker, Ryan Sinclair, Jamie and Mark McGauley.

Again, Gloucester was cold, damp and just leaving your cue for 5 minutes left it wet and sticky (easy girls) but despite that there were good vibes in the room. So many times we have seen Bucks have a bad start to matches and today was no different, 8-1 down but winning the last 2 in session to bring it back to an 8-3 loss. The winning frames came from newbies Ryan, Jamie Mc and ye ole faithful, Steve Appleby.

Normally you would think that maybe heads would be down, confidence dented and we would struggle to find the energy to pick ourselves back up but after a brief chat about it only being the first session and there was a further 33 games to go. We are more than capable of turning it around and everyone agreed. Noise levels and support were raised and a grit and determination was seen on everyone?s faces as we prepared for the start of session 2.

First 2 games went to Gloucester but we bounced back straight away with wins from Terry Davidson and Stuart Douglas, 2-2. Again the next four games were shared; Dan Morgan and Jamie Whittaker this time bringing it back for the Bucks, 4-4. Three out of the last 4 games went to the Bucks with wins coming from Jamie McGauley, Ryan Sinclair and Mark McGauley giving us a 7-4 win in this session and reducing our deficit to 12-10. That was more like it and you could feel the change in the air as we made our comeback. I could hardly hear myself think as noise levels were reaching an all time high.

What happened in the third session was gob-smackingly brilliant, 10-1 to the Bucks with a fantastic display of awesome pool from everyone. Gloucester faces were miserable. I had overheard a few comments after the first session that they were going to trounce us and, to put it nicely, that we were not very good. Also comment from Gloucester players to some our individual players that they were not capable of potting certain shots, how wrong they were. I am proud of our players and how they handled the comments on the table... have that Gloucester. Wins in this session came from Jimmy Wharton, Dan Morgan, Peter Lee, Stuart Douglas, Terry Davidson, Jamie and Mark McGauley, Jamie Whittaker, Ryan Sinclair and Steve Appleby. This put the Bucks 20-13 in front, fecking incredible performance.

Last session needing 3 frames for the win. Enter Dan Morgan, even with a bit of barracking from a Gloucester player mid way through his frame Dan stood up and looked at him straight in the face and said he was going to? bang dat ball in da pocket? and he did with some style. I?m thinking that Dans sugar levels were fairly high when he said it as he looked like a man possessed. With his adrenalin high he missed an easier black giving Gloucester a chance. A bit of a tweak from Gloucester player on the black, leaving it over the bag, gave Dan an easy chance to win the frame, which he did, rather noisily but silencing the man from Gloucester that barracked him.....QUALITY.... 21-13.

Peter Lee?s turn and he did not let us down. Taking his time, waiting for his chance and a trademark finish from Peter put us 22-13 ahead. Mike Chappell next, playing for the Bucks win but not having the best day up to this point with 0/3. He could have been forgiven for just giving up but he approached the game like it was his first and potted some great balls. A bit of a safety tussle looked to have left Mike in a bit of trouble but he replied with some fantastic get outs and good safety shots of his own. Mike was starting to get the upper hand and eventually when he got his chance, potted the black and secured the win for the Bucks, top stuff. The cheers were deafening as I shook his hand and gave him a big hug (I was never confused) and congrats came from every direction. It was an incredible sight to witness and to be part of. The celebrations went on for a few minutes and then we had a job to finish. Further wins then came from Jamie MC, Jimmy, Stuart, Mark Mc Gauley who made that shot of the day with a swerve shot that even Terry Davidson would have been proud of. Mark landing on the black after the swerve and taking the game in style, Jamie W and Ryan to take that session 9-2 and an overall win of 29-15.

What can I say except I was very proud of everyone. The Support, team spirit, the never say die attitude and the good laughs we all had on the way to a remarkable win. With 2 Bucks virgins, Jamie Mc Gauley and Ryan Sinclair both getting 4/4 it was a tough decision for Gloucester to name the player of the match. Congratulations to Ryan Sinclair, who they named as POM not only for his excellent play but cos he has been out of the game for such a long time. So many players performed brilliantly and in my eyes were all POM?s.

So to re-cap Gloucester thought they had an easy win, we started playing pool and totally kicked arse.... THE END
Unlucky ?B?s, losing 27-17, its bound to be hard at the start due to so many players and is hard for David to pick his side so a bit of support would not go amiss. I?m sure you will be back to winning ways soon.
What can you say about the ladies, splendid job as usual winning 35-9, an absolute mauling and I?m sure most other ladies teams quake in their stilettos at the thought of playing the Bunnies.
Next stop is Northants at the Herald on feb 7th. Look out Region 5.. Bucks are back
