SAGA Louts on tour

Last match of the season for us ?Old Farts? saw a double header against the Worcester Wobblers. It was good to welcome Ian Whitelaw, who is still awaiting a transplant, even if he looked a little frail. Before we could start I was informed that Ken would be required for the A?s with Chris and Dave for the B?s.

Keeping with the format Dave, Ken then last, but not least, Chris (to maximize their chances of England trials) that has seen victories over Warks twice; the ?Home? game was started first. I was about to settle down with an EPA (very thoughtful of the club to have a themed real ale) when the first problem of the day arose. Thankfully I had the team reading glasses; crisis averted (no-one can accuse me of lacking foresight). Although we lost the ?break? the SAGA Louts powered their way through the first set 3-0. Dave (I?ve just lost upstairs) then lost downstairs but Ken and Chris won, so 5-1 at the end of the second set. Ken (I?ve had a shocker upstairs) lost the first game of the third set, and then it was back to winning ways with the first match going 7-2 to us.

On then to the postponed away leg, by which time I had become the Clavey substitute, with the playing order revised. Chris leading the way this time, as a reward for his 100% in the previous match, followed by Dave and Ken. A reversal of fortunes saw us winning the break, which Mr. Willoughby duly capitalized on. Two more wins seized the first set 0-3 (this is starting to become a trend). The second set went 1-2 to us as Ken switched to Lager shandies (lightweight), the shock to his system affecting his game. Normal service was resumed in the third set to give us a 1-8 victory. This left Chris (Mr. Invincible) with 6/6 and the SAGA Louts with an unassailable lead in the region (in theory Warks could tie with us if they win 9-0 against Glos [highly unlikely] but we?ve beaten them twice, so yah, boo, sucks to that). We now have a, well deserved, rest until January when we will really be the SAGA Louts on Tour.
