Saga Louts on Tour

August 22nd and finally Coventry?s Coffin Dodgers have deigned to visit Bucks to take on the SAGA Louts. This is the re-arranged match from Mothers day, although most of us are too old to have mothers still alive. The day has started with me posting the stopwatches through Dave?s front door just before nine as I was off to Northampton. What happened next was related to me later (The bracket bits are mine).

Two Old Farts arrived bright and early (with time to spare cos they had the stopwatches) without their beloved captain (no, I haven?t bribed Dave) who had been lured away by the promise of filthy lucre and hero worship at the South Mids Tour. First job; extricate the table secreted behind a forest of tables and chairs (Wrong! 1st job; go to bar). Level, brush, iron, and lights sorted, all in about 10 minutes! Who said we are slow? We knew this was going to be a tough game because our opponents had swept all before them, but we were confident of victory ? until Chris arrived and regaled us with tales of over-night projectile vomiting and promptly regurgitated, again! The next couple of hours he then spent drinking and chundering; is he bulimic? (I did not know Chris was eastern European). The situation was further complicated by the A and B team captains press-ganging us to play for their teams because some thoughtless individuals had gone to work, or on holiday and the need for Ken and I to get to Northampton by 2pm. Everything considered, it was a minor miracle that the managed to organize the day to everyone?s satisfaction. Chris was left to take up cudgels for the Seniors whilst Ken and I played for the men?s teams. However, due to Chris?s frailty, when we returned the score was 0-2. Taking exception to this state of affairs (how could they be so mean to one so sick) six consecutive wins left Chris an opportunity to make the score an immensely impressive 7-2. It was not to be, but 6-3 still gratifying against a team with an ex and current England Senior (and we get the chance to do it again in a few weeks). This means we are now second, with a game in hand!
