Bucks 'A' versus Gloucs 'A' Match Report
Posted by bullet.gif whatafcukinliberty on June 24 2010
I would like to start off by welcoming our new signing for the ?A?s, Neil Goodyer, who after an absence for a few years decided that Bucks was the way to go.
Father?s day and everyone was eager to start our 6th match of the season which is gradually turning into the best season in 8 years. Committee meeting averted and so everyone focused apart from the ?B?s it seemed as they tried to regroup after coming up short in Herefordshire.
The match started right on schedule at 12:30pm with most players turning up early for some practice. Noise levels were high again as our first two players, Jimmy and Terry made their way to the tables. In a match that would mark the half way stage, both players made the best of starts winning both their games. Next up was John Hardaker and Peter Lee and a good solid performance from John gave him his first win of the day and Peter giving Gloucs their first frame of the day. The next 5 frames went to the Bucks thanks to Steve Appleby, Neil Goodyer, Stuart Douglas, Jamie Whittaker and Dan Morgan (great start for newcomer Neil). Gloucs won the last 2 games of this session leaving Bucks with an 8-3 lead. The best of starts and I could not have asked for more.

A slight glitch in the second session for the Bucks as we managed only 5 wins from 11 with our wins coming from Jimmy (oooh 2 in a row) Wharton, Peter Lee, Steve Appleby, Jamie Whittaker and Jamie Mc Gauley. Not a disaster by any means as we still had a 13-9 lead going into the third session.

Third session and the Bucks were still as noisy as ever and confidence is high. Terry and Jimmy Jams started us off again with Jimmy giving us a win and Terry..........not. Gloucs then won 2 out of the next 3 games, our win coming from Peter Lee. Bucks then hit back winning the next 3 thanks to Neil, Stuart and Jamie (oh no, not again) Whittaker. An unusually out of sorts Dan Morgan and Jamie Mc Gauley lost the next 2 with Mark Mc Gauley taking the last of the session to give it to the Bucks 6-5 and an overall lead of 19-14 and needing only 4 from 11 for another great win.

Into the last session and the first four games were shared with Jimmy being the unluckiest as he got dished off his dry break and so missing out on 100% record for the day but a great comeback of form nevertheless. Peter Lee ? and Terry Davidson 2/4 won our two. An agonising two frames away from victory and 2 great Bucks players on next, Steve and Neil. With Steve not having much luck and Neil having a bit of a blonde moment, both games went to Gloucs and made the scoreline 21-18 to the mighty Bucks. Both Steve and Neil both ended with a respectable 50% for the day. Jamie Whittaker and Stuart up next and it was all to play for. Jamie finished first and won his frame with yet another faultless game and continuing his great run of form. By the time Jamie had finished his game leaving Bucks just 1 game away from victory, Stuart was down to his last 2 yellow and it was a long plant into the corner. Having potted it his last yellow just trundled toward the cushion leaving the angle to narrow to cut back in same back. By this time the Buckers had slowly started to gather around the table as Stuart decided to go across the cushion and try and knock it in, knowing a miss would cost him the game. In it went, leaving the white 2 inches away from the cushion and the black near its spot. A long pot to secure the win and Stuart started to get surrounded by black county shirts as he cued slowly (nervous wreck) and firmly stroked the white. Straight in the pocket as he let out a relieved cheer quickly joined by the rest of the Buckers. Two of the last three games also went to the Bucks thanks to Jamie and Mark Mc Gauley both finishing in great style and with 2/4.

Final score was 25-19 to Bucks with another (3 in a row) well deserved man of the match from Jamie Whittaker, thank god he plays for Bucks. Gloucs player of match went to Martin ray with a ?.

Our performances are getting better and better with more and more support each game. Let?s keep this up for our next game against local rivals Northants. I am extremely proud of the whole squad and am in a privileged position which I love. Well done to Neil for his 50% on his debut and also for John Hardaker for his 50% start for the ?A?s over 2 matches, great stuff.
Bad luck to an out of sorts ?B? team losing 30-14 but a well deserved man of match to returning Bucks player Chris Lee with a 2/2.

No ladies game so nothing to report. Let?s keep this great run going Bucks and try to end this last 7 team region 5 season with a regional title and a fantastic trip to Yarmouth.
