Saga Louts on Tour
Posted by bullet.gif Koopa on June 23 2010
After many months of inactivity, the oldies were once again in action. A leisurely Sunday morning?s preparation was rudely interrupted by a phone call, from the Scot who?s English for trials. ?Registration Forms, do you have any?? he flapped. After assuring him that I would print one I resumed my now not so leisurely ablutions only for the phone to ring again, ?Stopwatches?? a by now familiar Scots drawl intoned. ?I?ve got them? I replied and prepared to leave for the days contest.

I was pleasantly surprised to greet Neil Goodyer, who I gave a form and noticed there was a lone Bunny who seemed to have time on her hands. This was soon rectified when I retrieved the stopwatch that Amersham used for InterLeague. Glos were lacking one of their geriatrics and it was decided not to rush so that they might have a chance to get to the Herald. After a while Dave (I used to play for England) moaned that he was going ?cold? after practice and could we crack on.

Glos gave up any hope of their third player arriving so Chris (I?ll have a Worthies) started us off. Disaster, although he had practiced with Dave it was on a different table so 1-3 with Dave having the first bye. Me next, a dry break and my opponent dished leaving us 2-3 up. Dave on next, he lost (?This table is faster than the other one?) 3-3, Chris?s turn for the bye then myself with a good clearance to go 4-3. Dave then wrapped up the win in the third session with Chris losing again and my turn for the bye. So, 5-4 to Bucks with dire murmurings coming form the B?s.

An impromptu knock about was then organised to keep us oldies awake with some of Glos youngsters joining in. We beat them again.

The mad Scot was then panicking again over the POM trophies. Having ascertained that they were not at the Herald, frantic dialling ensued until their whereabouts was established. ?I?ll get them? was the call from the Sweaty who left and then returned, quickly, when he realised he wasn?t driving. TD to the rescue, trophies secured.

Congrats to the A?s for a convincing win but a poor result from the B?s. The day was enlivened by the arrival of Stuarts ?designated driver?, the willowy Ruth who must have had her normal clothes in the wash as she was wearing her mum?s curtains.
