Bucks 'A' versus Oxfordshire 'A' Match Report
Posted by bullet.gif whatafcukinliberty on May 18 2010
Fourth game in (although it felt like more) and it?s against the inform Oxfordshire side who have had a great start to the season.
Most people arrived around 11am ready for the big vote for the new squad manager position. Liam Harty, Franco Marsala and Dane Tuttlebee being the guys that put their names forward. After the count it was tied between 2, Liam and Dane with Franco coming in 3rd. Another round of voting then took place between Dane and Liam with Liam coming out top by a few votes. So firstly I would like to congratulate Liam on his new position and I wish him success for the Bucks future.

First session and we had our oh so typical start going 5-1 down, our only winner coming from Jamie Whittaker with a mental cut on the black. That seemed to spur us on a little as we took 4 out of the next 5 games to leave the session finishing 5-6 to Oxfordshire. Considering some of the starts we have had in the past that was great. Our other wins came from Terry Davidson, Mark Mc Gauley, Steve Appleby and Dave ?i?m fifty something? Minister.
Into the second session and it had to be seen to be believed. The first 2 games were shared thanks to Dan ?the disher, oooh look at me i?m in the under 21?s? Morgan. Some amazing pool followed from the Bucks and we took the next 8 in a row. Wins from Peter Lee, Jamie Whittaker, Mike Chappell, Stuart Douglas, Terry Davidson, Mark Mc Gauley, Jamie Mc Gauley and Steve Appleby, who played some great safety and excellent pots to take his frame. Oxfordshire took the last frame of the session meaning the Bucks took this 9-2, absolute quality.

Bucks were now enjoying a 14-8 lead after the halfway stage and confidence was high as were our spirits. Starting well in the 3rd by winning the first 2 games thanks to Dan Morgan and Jimmy ?yes I said jimmy? Wharton and extending our lead to 16-8. The next six games went back and forth ending up three a piece, our 3 coming from Jamie Whittaker, Stuart Douglas and Mark Mc Gauley. Both Mark and Jamie playing some excellent pool with an impressive 3 wins from 3. Unfortunately for the Bucks Oxfordshire won the last 3 in this session, taking it 5-6 and reducing our overall lead to 19-14.

Onto the last session of the day and needing only 3 wins for the draw and 4 for the win, Bucks were quietly confident. The first 4 games were shared thanks to Jimmy ? yes I said Jimmy again? Wharton and Peter Lee. Jamie Whittaker was particularly unlucky to lose his last game against his opponent who pulled off flukes and lucky positional shots to take it but a great day for Jamie anyway with a marvellous ?. 21-16 and now only needing 2 games for the win. Oxfordshire just didn?t want to give up and staged an impressive comeback winning the next 3 games to leave us in a nervous 21-18 lead with five to play. On comes Terry ? im a crazy fooker ? Davidson on one table and Mark ?where?s my shampoo? Mc Gauley on the other. Terry played his usual steady game with a few mental shots thrown in but eventually won and secured the Bucks at least a draw. Mark on the other hand never got much of a look in and lost his last game leaving him also on ?. Score now stands at 22-19 with three to play. Young Jamie Mc Gauley up next and missed chances from both players everywhere. Jamie missed a good chance, leaving Oxfordshire a decent chance to clear the table. Oxfordshire then pot the black with the white ball travelling ominously towards the middle bag. It was the longest trip towards the middle I have ever seen, it was almost dead weight as it trickled nearer to the pocket with the nap just helping it in. This secured the win for the Bucks even though it was fortunate but we played well all day and overall I think we deserved the win but I feel for Ox as it?s not a way to lose a game. Just as well Jamie had that fortune as the next two games went to Oxfordshire making the result 23-21 to the mighty Bucks.

Fantastic performance from the ?A?s and I would like to thank Dave minister for filling in for Ryan Sinclair as he could not make it as he was working. The lesson to be learnt this month is that we should never stop playing, even if it looks like we are cruising as all the teams that we play are more than capable of staging a comeback as their players are also the best in their county.
This season so far has been fantastic and I feel privileged to captain such a group of talented pool players whom I also consider friends ( yes, even you Jimmy ). Almost as important as the talent is the positive attitude we all have had this season, the support for each other and the lack of whinging. This all adds up to making us the team we are and proof that we are no pushovers but more a force to be reckoned with. Keep it up Bucks, as mc donalds would say ? I?m feckin lovin it?.
Two more things to end with, firstly I would like to thank Dane Tuttlebee for all his help in the run up to elect a new manager, the phone calls, texts, pm?s and general organisation, It?s much appreciated.

Lastly I would like to thank Dan Wilkins for all his hard work that he has done for the Bucks in the last few years. You are largely responsible for creating the side that we are and I for one am glad you decided to stay and play.

Congrats to the ?B?s who also recorded a fine win 24-20 and of course not forgetting the bunnies who absolutely mugged Ox ladies 33-11.
Massive well done to Jamie Whittaker for the ?A?s player of the match award, John Hardaker for the ?B?s and to Michaela Lester for the bunnies.
Up The Bucks.
